Rs. 1.8 Bn from COVID fund to import medicine

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has instructed officials to use Rs. 1.8 Billion from the COVID-19 Healthcare and Social Security Fund to import essential medicine to the country.

As the COVID-19 pandemic is under control in Sri Lanka, the President had instructed for the money in the COVID-19 Healthcare and Social Security Fund tro be used for health requirements.

The President's Media Division said that 234 medicines required by hospitals are produced locally, and considering the rising cost of medicine in the world market, the President stressed the need to enhance local production and utilize the Indian Credit Line to import the material required for production.
