Fake Passport Case: Shashi Weerawansa granted bail

COLOMBO (News 1st); Shashi Weerawansa, the wife of Former Minister Wimal Weerawansa, was granted bail on Tuesday (31) by the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court.

The Colombo Chief Magistrate decided to grant bail after considering the application for bail made by Shashi Weerawansa, who was sentenced to two-years in prison.

The Court also issued an order prohibiting overseas travel for Shashi Weerawansa. Accordingly, she was released on a Rs. 50,000/- Cash Bail, and two personal bails of Rs. 5 Million each.

Shashi Weerawansa, the wife of Former Minister Wimal Weerawansa filed an appeal challenging the 2-year prison sentence and fine imposed on her after she was found guilty of possessing a fake passport.

The Colombo Magistrate decided to consider a request for bail made on behalf of Shashi Weerawansa on the 30th of May, as Weerawansa had already filed an appeal challenging the sentence.
