COLOMBO (News 1st); The Samagi Jana Balavegaya in a letter to the Inspector General of Police says that peaceful protestors are being arrested by Sri Lanka Police using the video footage from the incidents that took place on the 9th of May 2022.
The SJB alleged that against a backdrop where those who incited the violence on the 9th of May 2022, and those who engaged in violence are not arrested, Sri Lanka Police is operaring in a manner that totally disregards the advise of the Attorney General.
The letter notes that arresting peaceful protestors is a blow to the Rule of Law, and urged that Sri Lanka Police must stop arresting those who even attended protests before the said incident on the 9th of May.
