COLOMBO (News 1st); The Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe has addressed concerns regarding a previous statement of his, where he said that he will resign if political stability is not achieved.
Speaking to media today (19), the CBSL Governor said that he would prefer to have a Finance Minister appointed to fast track the IMF program, however, even without a Finance Minister, any finance proposals can still be submitted to the Cabinet, while the President and the Prime Minister still can approve it.
Mentioning that IMF negotiations are finalized when it comes to a state where you sign a staff level agreement, the CBSL Governor said that the Finance Minister, Governor, or even Prime Minister can give the same commitment.
“There has been a good progress in that direction,” he added.
However, the Prime Minister has not yet appointed a Finance Minister for the new Cabinet.
