Inflation currently at 30%: CBSL Governor

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka's inflation is currently around 30%, says the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe.

Speaking to media, the CBSL Governor said that while inflation is obviously is around 30%, headline inflation will go to around 40% in these couple of months.

Pointing out that it is not necessarily a demand on inflation, he said that it is partly due to a one-off adjustments in some of the prices and also currency depreciation, and partly due to the historical excess demand that was generated.

"But now that is cooling down. Clearly we see imports are coming down, we see the credit growth is also coming down," he added.
