Happy to have created a peaceful country: Gen. Shavendra Silva

COLOMBO (News 1st); I am happy to have contributed towards creating an environment where the people of this country can breathe a sigh of relief and live peacefully, says Army Commander General Shavendra Silva.

Participating in the 'Ten Questions' program with News 1st, the Army Commander said that he is also grateful for the fact that he, as the person who commanded the 58th Division, was able to speak to the Commander at the time, and declared that the war was over.

Therefore, apart from the recent extremist attack which took place, there has never been a terrorist attack in this country, the Army Commander pointed out.

"We were able to do exactly what we promised; that terrorism will be eradicated from the country. I salute all the war heroes who contributed for the betterment of the nation," he added.
