COLOMBO (News 1st); The Colombo Magistrate’s Court on Thursday (19) rejected a request made by the Welikada Police to issue an order to prevent the protest organized by the Inter-University Students Federation at the Polduwa Junction, from going ahead as planned.
Sri Lanka Police said the protest would obstruct the movement of MPs and Ministers to and from the Parliament, and it could violate their parliamentary privileges.
However, upon considering the facts submitted by Sri Lanka Police Colombo Additional Magistrate Harshana Kekunawala rejected the request.
The Magistrate pointed out that if a breach of the peace takes place, Sri Lanka Police can act as per the powers vested in them.
