COLOMBO (News 1st); The Police Media Spokesperson said that 230 suspects were arrested for arson and damage to houses and vehicles in various parts of the country, while 68 have been remanded, in connection with the violence on 9th May.
Moreover, statements have been obtained from 140 witnesses, while the Criminal Investigations Department continues to examine social media footage related to events on the day.
707 cases of arson and other property damage have been reported, the Police Media Spokesperson stated, adding that the arrested suspects are due to be presented before Court today (15).
Meanwhile, Police have been instructed to deploy the maximum number of personnel to engage in patrol to prevent such acts from taking place in the future.
Police have also introduced two hotlines (1997 and 119) for the public to inform the Police of such incidents.
