COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lankan Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has replied to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa over concerns about the post of Prime Minister.
The Opposition Leader in a letter stated that the Samagi Jana Balavegaya will not nominate any members for the proposed Cabinet of Ministers that the President is to appoint by directly disregarding the mandate of the people.
Sajith Premadasa said as per his letter to the President dated the 12th May 2022, he is committed to serving as Prime Minister in a government set up under him subject to the conditions mentioned in the said letter.
The Opposition Leader also reminded the President in his letter, that when he was invited to accept the Post of Prime Minister he did not say NO to the offer.
The letter notes that Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa and the Samagi Jana Balavegaya believe that entering into a program which allows the President to remain in his position indefinitely disregarding the calls from the people, is a blow to the mandate of the people.
