Prisons Chief, Officers summoned to HRCSL

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Commissioner General of Prisons Thushara Upuldeniya and several prison officials have been summoned to the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) today (12).

The chairperson of the commission Supreme Court Judge (Rtd.) Rohini Marasinghe said they had been informed to appear before the commission this afternoon.

They have been summoned to inquire into allegations that a group of inmates at the Watareka Prison were used to attack protesters on the 9th of Monday.

Meanwhile, Senior DIG in-charge of the Western Province Deshabandu Tennakoon has been summoned to appear before the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka on Friday (13).

The chairperson of the commission Supreme Court Judge (Rtd.) Rohini Marasinghe said the decision was based on submissions made by the IGP and the Army Commander before the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka yesterday (11).

The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) stated yesterday (11) that it was observed that there was a lack of intelligence concerning the recent violence in the country.
