'Asani' may intensify into severe cyclonic storm: Met Dept

COLOMBO (News 1st); The deep depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal has intensified into a Cyclonic storm “Asani” and lay about 900km northeast of Trincomalee. It is very likely to move northwestwards and intensify into a severe cyclonic storm over east-central Bay of Bengal during next 06 hours, says the Meteorological Department.

Naval and fishing communities have been advised not to venture into the sea area until further notice, while those who are out at aforementioned sea regions are advised to return to coasts or moved safer areas immediately.

Moreover, fishing and naval community are requested to be attentive to future forecasts issued by the Department of Meteorology in this regard.
