Landslide disrupts vehicular movement on Hatton-Colombo main road

COLOMBO (News 1st); A landslide near Ginigathhena on the Hatton-Colombo main road this morning has disrupted traffic.

Nuwara Eliya District Assistant Director of the Disaster Management Center, Ranjith Alahakoon stated that one lane of the road has been blocked due to the landslide.

Efforts to clear the road are underway, while he urged drivers to be careful while driving in the area.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department states that showers or thundershowers will occur in many parts of the island during the evening or night today (24).

The Department of Meteorology said that heavy showers of more than 75 mm are expected in the Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva, North Central and North Western Provinces and in some places in the Galle and Matara Districts.

Therefore, the Meteorological Department requests the public to take action to minimize lightning accidents.
