COLOMBO (News 1st): Sri Lanka has invited Director-General of the World Health Organization, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus to undertake a visit to the island nation.
Health Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa, who is in Geneva for the 78th World Health Assembly of the World Health Organization (WHO) met with Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and also invited him to join the South Asia Regional Conference that will be held in Colombo in October 2025.
The talks focused on the current state of Sri Lanka’s health sector and outlined ambitious plans for its future.
Key topics included the establishment of 1,000 new primary health care centers across the country, mobilizing support from international organizations and donors, and enhancing the delivery of health services with WHO assistance.
The discussion also addressed the growing concern of health professional migration. Both parties explored sustainable solutions aligned with WHO guidelines to retain skilled medical personnel within the country.
