Sri Lanka needs new system of governance - SLMA

COLOMBO (News 1st);The Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA) has expressed serious concern about the current situation in Sri Lanka that needs to be addressed.

SLMA said that Sri Lanka is going through the worst economic & political crisis since independence which has brought the country into a state of near bankruptcy.

The crisis will affect the optimal functioning of all three levels of the health care system of the country such as medicines, vaccinations, and other essential equipment required.

Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA) fervently urges the Government to solve these crises as a matter of utmost urgency to prevent it from affecting the health and survival of the people of the country.

Further, it says the social, economic, community and health issues affecting the country have pushed the populace to face several difficulties and hardships, as Sri Lankans steadily move from one crisis to another.

The SLMA said that the protests by citizens in the country are spreading and are likely to intensify with more and more individuals, groups, and professions, joining , and calling for a radical change in the country.

SLMA will stand firmly with the wishes of the general public for social justice, fairness, and equity and wish to compel the Government to establish a new system of governance with accountability, transparency, meritocracy, honesty, with an abiding sense of patriotism.
