SLPP PS member arrested for assaulting University students, remanded

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Pradeshiya Sabha member Duminda Perera who was arrested for assaulting a student of Kelaniya University has been remanded till 22nd of April.

He was produced before Mahara Acting Magistrate Ramani Seneviratne today (14), and many lawyers were seen appearing for university students free of charge.

A group of students led by the Kelaniya University Students' Union had initiated a protest in Kiribathgoda yesterday (13).

Later, Duminda Perera, a Member of the Pradeshiya Sabha of the Sri Lanka People's Front, who arrived at the scene, demolished a structure which was installed by the students.

The MP had also assaulted several students and later Kiribathgoda Police arrested the suspect.
