COLOMBO (News 1st); Health workers from the Colombo National Hospital and the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital protested on Monday (4) citing growing concerns about a medicine shortage in the country.

Doctors, nurses, and other staff took part in these protests demanding the government solve the issues, without putting the patients' lives at risk.

"The entire health sector is in crisis. We are short of medicines, and equipment. There are no transport facilities for the staff. Most importantly, some hospitals do not even have hospitals," said Dr. Jayantha Bandara, the Secretary of the All Ceylon Medical Officers Union.

The health workers were demanding the government resign over its mismanagement of the economy.

These protests were held in solidarity with the nationwide protests that are taking place against the government.
