COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka is hosting the fifth Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Summit in Colombo.
The BIMSTEC Summit is underway in Colombo, with the participation of seven-member nations.
The Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry said on Sunday (27) that the event will be held in hybrid mode and that Foreign Ministers and senior officials of Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, and Thailand arrived in Sri Lanka over the weekend.
On March 30, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa will chair the BIMSTEC Summit. Leaders of Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, and Thailand will participate virtually, the Foreign Ministry said. Myanmar will be represented by their Foreign Minister.
The leaders and senior officials will discuss the future of BIMSTEC, and the progress made so far.
The Foreign Ministry added that the BIMSTEC charter is to be adopted during the summit.
