Teens arrested for turning blind eye when friend was swept away by currents

COLOMBO (News 1st); The body of a 16-year-old school boy was found at the Kirindiela Canal in the Udathula area in the lower Pelmadulla on Monday (28).

Sri Lanka Police said that the deceased had left home on the 26th of this month stating that he was going to Lellupitiya.

However, his relatives lodged a complaint with the Ratnapura Police on the 27th as he did NOT return home.

According to Police, the student's body was found three days later during a search operation, it has been revealed the victim had died after drowning.

Police have arrested three of the victim's friends who were swimming with him at the time of the incident on charges of 

concealing facts concerning the disappearance of their friend.
