Cop transferred to CID after extortion allegations emerge

COLOMBO (News 1st); A Police Sergeant attached to the Illegal Assets Investigations Division has been transferred to the CID.

According to a senior police officer at the Police Headquaters the Police Sergeant was transferred over an incident where he allegedly solicited Rs. 15 Million to secure bail for Dematagoda Ruwan, who is a drug trafficker currently in remand custody.

The senior Police officer stated that the son of Dematagoda Ruwan was summoned to the Illegal Assets Unit recently to record a statement, and the revelation was made during the interview.

The Illegal Assets Investigations Division has also commenced a special investigation in this regard.
