COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Navy sprang into action to assist a distressed foreign sailing boat in seas south of Hambantota and brought it to the Hambantota harbour on 22nd March 2022.
The sailing boat ‘Adamant II’, broke down due to a mechanical failure, en route from the Trincomalee harbour to the Maldives, on 19th March 2022. On receipt of information about the distressed boat to the Maritime Rescue Coordinating Centre (MRCC), Colombo, Sri Lanka Navy promptly sent out the Fast Attack Craft P 422 of the 04th Fast Attack Flotilla (4 FAF) from the Hambantota harbour for assistance.
Accordingly, the Navy brought the defunct sailing boat to Hambantota, along with 01 Filipino and 01 Australian on 22nd March. Arrangements were also made to hand over the sailing boat for its local agent for repairs.
The Navy is in constant vigilance to provide relief to distressed naval and fishing communities in Sri Lanka’s Maritime Search and Rescue Region in coordination with (MRCC), Colombo at the Navy Headquarters.
