COLOMBO (News 1st); The Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) was being misused by authorities, however the new amendments must be passed by the House to ensure that it will no longer be the case, the Minister of Justice, Ali Sabry states.
Speaking at the Parliament today (22) the Justice Minister admitted that there were two cases in which the PTA was abused recently, however the total removal of anti-terrorism law in the country is not acceptable.
Citing incidents where a bomb was discovered at a church recently, the Easter Sunday Attacks and several other cases, the Justice Minister pointed out the importance of amending the existing law, while emphasizing that Sri Lanka needs such legislation.
Moreover, the Minister said that a balanced legislation will be introduced in the future against terrorism.
