IMF intends to begin talks with SL - Spokesperson

COLOMBO (News 1st); IMF spokesman Gerry Rice said the International Monetary Fund (IMF) intends to begin discussions with Sri Lanka on a program to support the country adding that the island is facing high currency depreciation and inflation after an unusual bout of money printing to keep interest rates low.

He further said that the Authorities have also recommended that they are actively considering an IMF-supported program.

He said that they will discuss with the authorities how best they can assist Sri Lanka going forward.

At the same time, Finance Minister, Basil Rajapaksa is expected to fly to Washington in April 2022.
