Amber alert preventing fishing & naval communities from venturing to sea

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Meteorological Department has issued an amber alert warning the fishing and naval communities not to sail in the Bay of Bengal until further notice due to the low pressure area adjoining the central region of the Bay of Bengal.

The Department of Meteorology states that the prevailing low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal will move towards the Andaman Sea in the next 24 hours.

Due to the effect of the low pressure area, there may be heavy showers or thundershowers in those sea areas as well as winds of up to 60 km per hour, while the weather forecast also states that the sea areas will be very rough at times.
