COLOMBO (News 1st); 60 Medical Officer of Health Divisions island wide have been designated as Dengue High Risk Zones.

Disnaka Dissanayake, National Organizer of the Health Entomologists' Association said that there is a serious risk of dengue in the coming months.

The highest number of patients were reported from Colombo, Jaffna, Kalutara, Gampaha, Puttalam and Kandy Districts within this year.

Accordingly, the number of dengue patients reported so far this year is close to 11,500.

Surveys conducted by entomological officials have revealed that with the forthcoming inter-monsoon weather, the prevailing dengue situation could develop into a severe epidemic.

Entomologists emphasize that as mosquito breeding grounds have increased, a formal program should be initiated to control the situation.

Entomologists also urged the public to destroy mosquito breeding grounds and keep their premises clean.
