Probe underway into substandard railway engines from India

COLOMBO (News 1st); State minister Dilum Amungama says that an investigation has been launched into the importation of substandard railway engines from India.

The State Minister of Transport, speaking in Parliament stated that certain irregularities have occurred when using the imported railway engines, and as the State Minister, he has called for a report on the matter, in addition to conducting an inquiry into all railway departments and appointing a team to identify whether fraud has taken place. 

Accordingly, the findings of these investigations will be submitted to the Criminal Investigations Department, he added.

SJB MP Hesha Withanage, in response, stated that legal action can be taken if anyone in the previous administration has committed any act of fraud or even looted money under it.
