COLOMBO (News 1st); For many years, the people from Vengala-Chettikulama in rural Vavuniya were deprived of access to clean drinking water.
In an effort to bring relief to the people of the village, Gammadda stepped in to provide a vital water purification system.
The technical assistance for this project was provided by the Sri Lanka Navy, while it was financially supported by V. Nadesan from Wellawatte.
This village has been plagued by Chronic Kidney Disease, which has claimed several lives, mainly due to contaminated water.
The issue was first brought to the attention of the News 1st Gammadda Door to Door team in 2020, during a visit to the village.
It was reported via News 1st, and thereafter a good samaritan stepped forward to bring an end to the sorrows of the villagers, with a new water filtration system.
