COLOMBO (News 1st); Vegetable prices at Thambuththegama Economic Center saw a decrease of 50% due to the existing fuel shortage.
The influx of traders from outside the district has also reduced by 50% due to fuel shortages.
Traders at the Thambuththegama Economic Center, speaking to News 1st said that okra, pumpkin, brinjal, cucumber, and other vegetables, as well as fruits such as watermelon, papaya, and banana sales, have declined due to the absence of traders.
They stated that the number of traders coming from outside the district has decreased by 50% on Thursday (3) and as a result, it has become impossible to sell the fruits and vegetables brought by farmers.
The Economic Center President further stated that if this situation continues, the Economic Center will be completely destabilized and trading activities at the Economic Center will collapse.
