COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka’s Cabinet of Ministers had decided to postpone the decision on granting cabinet approval to provide compensation to the farmers affected by the fertilizer crisis by a week.
Minister of Agriculture Mahindananda Aluthgamage said the decision was reached at Monday’s (21) cabinet briefing.
Several entities have submitted proposals seeking to increase the compensation paid to farmers.
The minister said the government is ready to increase the compensation paid to farmers who lost their harvests after using organic fertilizer.
However, the minister said the provision of compensation will not be delayed.
