COLOMBO (News 1st): The railway operations along the Northern Line will be limited to Anuradhapura, starting from the 5th of March, the Railways Department said.  Railway operations will be limited along the Northern Line, in line with the project to renovate the section between Mahawa and Omanthai, General Manager of Railways, Dhammika Jayasundara said. Under the first phase of the project, the section from Anuradhapura to Omantha along the Northern Railway Line will be renovated, he noted. The project carried out under India's Line of Credit costs around USD $90 million. According to Dhammika Jayasundara, once the renovation of the Northern Railway Line concludes, the duration of the journey from Colombo to Jaffna will be reduced by about 40 minutes.
