3 Mn MT of cement per month from March to address shortage

COLOMBO (News 1st): Sri Lanka plans to release 3 million MT of cement per month from March 2022.

State Minister of Co-operative Services, Marketing Development and Consumer Protection, Lasantha Alagiyawanna told News 1st that with this measure the shortage of cement in the local market will be addressed.

However, the State Minister said none of the cement companies had forwarded requests for a price revision.

The State Minister further said that legal action was instituted against 100 distributors and agents who sold cement at extremely high prices, by creating a fake shortage in the market.
