COLOMBO (News 1st); The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka said that the Ceylon Electricity Board has not requested approval for scheduled power cuts.

The PUCSL on Thursday (3) said that if such power cuts take place, the PUCSL will be forced to act based on the provisions of the Electricity Act.

However, the Ceylon Electricity Board announced that power cuts are likely until 9:30 p.m. on Thursday (Feb. 3), as several Power Plants have run of fuel for power generation.

According to the CEB, the Kelanitissa Power Plant complex which has a capacity of 285 MW of power, has completely shut down after it ran out of fuel.

The Barge Mounted Power Plant at the Colombo Port, which generates 60 MW of power is also inactive due to the lack of fuel.

Moreover, the Mathugama Power Plant that generates 16 MW of power is also inactive given the shortage of fuel.

Accordingly, manual power outages are likely between 5:30 PM and 9:30 PM today, due to a lack of supply to meet the demand.
