CEB yet to receive 10,000MT of Diesel; power supply at risk

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Ceylon Electricity Board is yet to receive 10,000 Metric Tonnes of Diesel required for power generation as of Wednesday evening (Feb. 2).  Diesel stocks were not received as of 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday and as a result of this, the continuous supply of electricity could be a challenge, CEB Spokesperson Andrew Nawamani told News 1st. According to Andrew Nawamani, measures are underway to activate the three generators at the Norochcholai Lakwijaya Coal Power Plant at the capacity of 300 MW of Power. Meanwhile, the students sitting for the 2021 GCE Advanced Level and Ordinary Level Examinations, are severely inconvenienced due to the continuous power outages. Power outages were reported in several areas on Tuesday night (Feb. 1) as well, due to the shortage of fuel. The CEB noted that these power outages were due to the shortage of 100 MW of power.
