CMCs Pradeep Jayawardena assaulted with chili powder & water

COLOMBO (News 1st): Colombo Municipal Councilor Pradeep Jayawardena alleges that he was assaulted during a vote to elect the new Chairperson of the CMCs Environment Committee.

"The inaugural meeting for the years opens with a vote to elect a new Chairperson from among the six members. I was elected as Chairperson by majority vote," said Jayawardena on Monday (31).

However, Jayawardena said when he was about to proceed to the seat of the Chairperson he felt some liquid being dropped onto his head.

"The liquid was water mixed with chili powder," he said adding that those present also threatened him.

Pradeep Jayawardena said he filed a complaint with Sri Lanka Police over the incident.
