11% of heavy vehicle drivers found to be driving under influence

COLOMBO (News 1st); It has been revealed that between 10% and 12% of heavy vehicle drivers are being identified to be driving under the influence of drugs.

Chairman of the National Transport Medical Institute, Dr. Savindra Gamage stated this was revealed during a series of medical tests conducted on heavy vehicle drivers.

The Chairman said that the tests revealed that heavy vehicle drivers tend use drugs such as cannabis, hashish and marijuana.

He further noted that tests were conducted due to the increase in the number of accidents involving heavy vehicle drivers.
