COLOMBO (News 1st); The Elections Commission of Sri Lanka says that Provincial Councils elections can be held in the coming months if the Parliament passes the amendments to the Provincial Councils Elections Act.

Chairman of the Elections Commission, Nimal Punchihewa stated that the authorities have been instructed to prepare the relevant legal framework for holding the election.

This was also discussed during a meeting of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Electoral Law Reforms.

Punchihewa added that the a suitable backdrop must be established for the Provincial Council elections to be held this year.
