COLOMBO (News 1st); The National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWS&DB) says that a drinking water crisis may arise due to dry weather.

Assistant General Manager at the The National Water Supply and Drainage Board, Ekanayake Weerasinghe stated that a water supply crisis may arise in the Ratnapura District.

Speaking further, he also advised the people to carefully use the water supplied by the NWS&DB,  however, said that Colombo District residents may not experience a water shortage as it is being supplied from main sources such as the Kalu and Kelani rivers.

Upon inquiry from the Mahaweli Authority about the decreasing water levels in the Mahaweli Reservoir, authorities stated that two reasons are causing water levels in the Mahaweli Reservoir to recede; water being used for hydropower generation and the dry weather.
