COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ceylon Electricity Board says that power outages may be experienced for an hour and a half on Wednesday (19) night due to the Kelanitissa Power Plant running out of diesel.
Previously, it was reported that two power stations at the Kelanitissa power plant complex have been shut down due to a lack of diesel.
Its media spokesperson, Additional General Manager Andrew Navamani said that the national grid had lost 282 megawatts as a result of the power station failure.
Accordingly, the Additional General Manager stated that power supply in several areas will be cut off on Wednesday (19) afternoon.
The Additional General Manager Nawamani also stated that the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation has informed that the stocks of fuel required for the Kelanitissa power plant will be provided within the day.
However, it will take several hours to start the generators with that fuel, and it will not be possible to meet the demand of the national system during that time, he added.
