COLOMBO (News 1st); The Colombo High Court on Monday (10) rejected Ali Gulamhusein's bail application.

Gulamhusein was arrested and remanded on the charge of murdering his father Shabbir Abbas Gulamhusein by strangulation with the intention of inhering all his fathers' property.

Counsel for the suspect had filed an application for bail with the Colombo High Court as the Colombo Magistrate Court had already rejected bail for the suspect, who was arrested for the murder which took place four years ago.

Sri Lanka’s Criminal Investigations Department on 11th September 2021 arrested the youngest son of deceased businessman Shabbir Abbas Gulamhusein, over his father’s murder four years ago.

In 2021, Sri Lanka Police said that on the 09th of June 2017 Shabbir Abbas Gulamhusein passed away inside his office premises in Colombo, and a complaint was received on the 16th of August 2018 stating that the death was suspicious.

Following a lengthy investigation, it was revealed that Shabbir Abbas Gulamhusein had not died of natural causes, but had been murdered by strangulation, said Sri Lanka Police.

Thereafter, the CID has arrested the 37-year-old youngest son of the businessman in connection with the murder.

It was revealed that the murder was subtly planned and the funeral arrangements were made to look like a natural death by the youngest son.
