COLOMBO(News 1st); Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala says that search operations to apprehend organized criminals are continuing across the country.
He said the operations are being carried out jointly by the tri-forces, the police, and the Police Special Task Force.
A special search operation conducted the day before yesterday, involving nearly 14,000 security personnel, led to the arrest of 1,461 suspects.
Of those arrested, 810 had court-issued warrants, while 621 had open warrants.
Meanwhile, 3,283 suspects have been arrested over the past seven days under the ongoing islandwide crime and drug prevention operation, launched under the instructions of the Acting Inspector General of Police.
1,006 individuals were arrested in connection with heroin-related offenses during the period between July 11 and 17.
