Forex crisis not cause for port hold up

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ministry of Trade emphasized that essential items including milk powder containers are not being held off in the port due to the dollar crisis.

Secretary to the Ministry of Trade, Bhadrani Jayawardena said there was a shortage of milk powder in the country due to the breakdown in the supply chain of international milk powder companies.

She added that the Central Bank would intervene if any importer was prevented from releasing containers containing essential goods due to the lack of dollars.

In this regard, the Governor of the Central Bank Ajith Nivard Cabraal said action will be taken to release such containers at the request of the Ministry of Trade.
