COLOMBO (News 1st) - Following the successful conclusion of the Global Walk for Peace in the Island of Peace, the Maha Sangha delegation, led by the Venerable Pannyakara Thero of Vietnam, has officially departed Sri Lanka.
The delegation is scheduled to transit through Istanbul before continuing their journey to the United States, carrying forward the message of non-violence and global harmony cultivated during their stay in the island nation.
Following several special events held yesterday morning at the Kelaniya Rajamaha Viharaya, the Global Walk for Peace in the Island of Peace commenced its journey from Kelaniya toward Independence Square premises where the state ceremony for Walk for Peace was held.
The official State Ceremony took place at Independence Square around 4:00 PM, graced by the presence of the Most Venerable Maha Sangha including Venerable Pannakara Thera of Vietnam and the Maha Sangha representing the three main Buddhist chapters, alongside other multi-religious leaders.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Ministers, Foreign Ambassadors and Heads of the Security Forces were present at the occasion.
During the ceremony, President Dissanayake officially presented a sapling of the Anuradhapura Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi to the Maha Sangha, including the Venerable Pannyakara Thero of Vietnam.
Following the state ceremony, the Global Walk for Peace in the Island of Peace resumed, carrying the sacred Bodhi sapling through the Maharaja Media Network headquarters premises toward the Gangaramaya Temple in Hunupitiya.
At approximately 7:20 PM, the Vietnamese monk, Venerable Pannyakara Thero, and the accompanying Maha Sangha arrived at the Maharaja Media Network Headquarters at Baybrooke Place, Colombo 02.
Maha Sangha led by Venerable Pannyakara Thero were respectfully received by,Chairman of the Capital Maharaja Group Sashi Rajamahendran, Group Director Chevaan Daniel and CEO of MTV Yasarath Kamalsiri.
The Maha Sangha then proceeded to the Gangaramaya Temple in Hunupitiya, where the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi sapling was enshrined amidst the chanting of Seth Pirith.
Afterward, Venerable Pannyakara Thero and the monks visited an exhibition held at the National Design Center located within the temple premises.
The Global Walk for Peace in the Island of Peace, led by Venerable Pannyakara Thero, successfully captured global attention by spreading the message of peace and non-violence by visiting Sri Lanka and sharing this profound message, the delegation elevated the country's standing on the global stage as a country promoting peace and non-violence.
