China manufactures giant tunnel boring machine for Sri Lanka

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Chinese Embassy states that a giant tunnel-boring machine (TBM) made by China Railway Construction Heavy Industry Corp Ltd for Sri Lanka rolled off the assembly line in Changsha, Hunan Province on Thursday (6).

The TBM, with a diameter of 7.6 meters, is set to be used in a water diversion project in the country. The 27-kilometer tunneling project will be the longest hard rock tunneling project in the country. 

This is expected to assist irrigation and alleviate droughts and floods in Sri Lanka.
