CBSL to release USD for clearance of Rice stocks at Colombo Port

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Minister of Trade has informed that the US dollars required to clear 800 containers of Rice held at the Colombo Port will be released on Friday (Jan. 7) by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, the Essential Food Commodities Importers and Traders Association said. Spokesperson of the Importers Association, Nihal Seneviratne noted that he was informed in this regard by the Trade Minister. A request was submitted to the Government to reduce the warehousing charges paid in the event, goods are stuck at the Port, he said. The wholesale prices of imported Big Onions and Potatoes have gone down with the decrease in import taxes by Rs. 40, last week, Seneviratne added.
