COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ministry of Health has directed its attention to taking over several hospitals under Line Ministries in Provincial Councils in the future.
Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella stated that the move was aimed at improving public health services, taking into account the number of patients coming to hospitals, infrastructure and health staff.
The Minister also noted that there are a number of issues that need to be taken into consideration when taking over the institutions owned by the Provincial Council under the 13th Amendment to the Line Ministry.
He said that strengthening the existing health system in the country is a positive step for the future of the country.
Meanwhile, nurses, paramedics and medical professionals in the Southern Province have commenced a 24 hour token strike on Wednesday (05).
Co-convener of the Government Professionals’ Federation Saman Ratnapriya said the strike would continue until 7:00 a.m. Thursday (06).
