Cannot compensate for refusing fertilizer

COLOMBO (News 1st); Minister of Agriculture Mahindananda Aluthgamage states that no compensation will be paid to farmers who did not use the fertilizer provided by the Government during the last Maha season.

Journalists in Kandy on Sunday (02) questioned the payment of compensation for crop damage caused by the lack of fertilizer from Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage. 

However, the Minister pointing out that the Ministry has provided the public with four types of fertilizer, added that it is not possible to compensate farmers who did not use any type of provided fertilizer.

" We can only pay compensation if there is a shortage in the farmer's production by using those four types of fertilizers. Otherwise, if the farmer did not use any of these fertilizer products, the Government cannot pay compensation," he added.
