COLOMBO (News 1st); The responsibility of a Government is to provide relief to the people, and the Government has neglected this duty at present, says Ven. Omalpe Sobhitha Thero.

The Thero, speaking to media, stated that despite the present making promises of providing facilities and ensuring the security of the people, it had failed to fulfill this responsibility.

"This is the most deplorable poverty condition which had arisen in the country today," Ven. Omalpe Sobhitha Thero said.

Speaking further, the Thero said that the Government continues pointing fingers at the officials, blame the officials for not going through with their projects, alleging that the officials are sabotaging them. However, it is the Government that appoints these questionable people, the Thero stated.

"The Cabinet was appointed by the President and all relevant officials were appointed by the President. Then, the President cannot point fingers at the officials. If the officers make mistakes, the person who appointed them should be held accountable," Ven. Omalpe Sobhitha Thero mentioned.
