SLSI to be empowered to test imported LP gas quality

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Sri Lankan Government has decided to empower the Sri Lanka Standards Institute to inspect the quality of imported LP gas in the country.

Consumer Affairs Trade Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna speaking to News 1st said that the respective gazette will be published soon, and the Controller General of the Department of Imports and Exports Control had transferred such powers to Sri Lanka Standards Institute.

Accordingly, when LP gas is imported to the country a certification is required from the site where it was refined.

The State Minister said in the future an import quality assurance certificate will be required for the importation of LP gas.

According to the new mechanism, the Sri Lanka Standards Institute will send personnel to the country of origin for LP gas production, inspect the quality and then issue a certificate.

LP Gas can only be imported to Sri Lanka after this process, said the State Minister.
