LPL 2021: Jaffna Kings crowned Champions

COLOMBO (News 1st): Jaffna Kings were crowned the Champions of the Lanka Premier League 2021 for the second consecutive time, after beating Galle Gladiators by 23 runs in the final at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota. After opting to bat first, Jaffna Kings scored 201 runs for the loss of 03 wickets at the end of 20 overs. Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored 35 off 18; while Opener Avishka Fernando scored 63 off 41 with 08 fours and 02 sixes. Tom Kohler-Cadmore was unbeaten on 57 off 41 balls. Chasing a target of 202, Galle Gladiators only managed to put up 178 runs for 09 wickets, at the end of their 20 overs. For the Gladiators, Danushka Goonetileke scored 54 off 21 with 7 fours and 3 sixes and Kusal Mendis scored 39 off 28. Skipper Bhanuka Rajapaksa was dismissed for 14 runs. Avishka Fernando who scored 312 runs in total during the LPL 2021 edition, was awarded Player of the Series.
