COLOMBO (News 1st): Sri Lanka’s Environment Ministry has decided to implement a program to reduce paper usage within parliament.

Environment Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said that a number of documents, books, and paper material are seen on the tables of MPs daily when Parliament sessions are on.

He said that he would propose to the Speaker to appoint a Parliamentary Select Committee at the Party Leaders meetings to implement a program that would reduce the usage of paper at the house of legislature.

The Ministry said the program will come into effect from 2022 January.
