COLOMBO (News 1st); The Government had acted tactfully with regard to foreign reserves, keeping in mind that the Government will collapse if foreign reserves run out, but such stories of imminent bankruptcy are daydreams of those such as Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, says the Minister of Highways, Johnston Fernando

However, Minister Johnston Fernando indicated that the cost of goods could rise further, following an inspection tour of the entrance to the Mirigama interchange along the Central Expressway on Wednesday (22).

Speaking further, the Minister of Highways also stated that although the cost of goods is high, it will increase further until the pandemic eases, and as a nation, the people will have to face such difficulties.

Moreover, emphasizing that intelligent citizens must understand such difficulties, the Minister said that decisions such as fuel price hikes are not taken willingly.

" Who would hike the price of fuel willingly? It will affect every layer of society. But, we must implement a process which ensures both the people and the economy is protected," he said.

Responding to questions with regard to gas prices, the Minister said that he believes that an act of sabotage is involved in the recent issues in connection with gas, which is regrettable.
